Squirrel ordinary

Squirrel. ordinary (sciurus vulgaris). In Belarus the squirrel is one of the most numerous hunting animals. It meets in all woods and even city parks. Its population strongly changes depending on fodder conditions. And in this dynamics some periodicity is observed. The cycles of change of the squirrel's population repeat in 4-5 years. Its modern number makes 101,5 thousands of individuals. Habitats of squirrels are various woods, but it prefers coniferous and mixed, and from them first of all fir-deciduous and fir-tree. The quantity of this animal is higher and is stable in the mixed large forests with prevalence of a fir-tree because of presence of various forages that allows to replace one forages with others. In pine forests the squirrel meets often only within the big crop of strobila. The small-leaved woods formed by birch, alder and aspen almost aren't occupied because of bad fodder and protective conditions. Hunt on squirrel everywhere though only few hunters are engaged in real squirrel craft.
