Garganey

Garganey (anas querquedula). The natural habitat of a garganey borrows an average strip of Europe and Asia. On the north this kind does not get so far as the teal as gravitates to the open reservoirs with extensive meadows and avoids wood. Winters garganey considerably in the south than other ducks, basically in region of Mediterranean, in Africa and southern parts of Asia. In Belarus it is a usual kind, but it is distributed non-evenly. It is much more in flat areas of Polesye. Its favorite habitat are opened boggy meadows of rivers, low-lying grassy bogs, lakes with presence of inundated meadows. In meadows of some rivers this kind surpasses on number even mallard. Garganey nests even on improvement systems, especially there where fields are planted with long-term grasses. It arrives on places of reproduction after other river ducks - in the middle of April. On flight keeps in flock. Autumn flying away garganey begins in August and comes to the end in the beginning of October. It passes quite imperceptibly as teals do not form greater flocks besides prefer to migrate at night. By quantity of a waterfowl extracted by hunters in meadows of flat rivers the garganey takes the second place after mallard.
