Wild boar

Wild boar (Sus scrofa). In Belarus the wild boar is widespread on all territory and is a usual native kind of fauna. Population density of a wild boar makes 5-15 individuals on 1000 hectares of wood lands. Habitats of wild boars in conditions of Belarus are various. In Polesye they usually live in deciduous woods, alder thickets. In Poozerye the basic habitats of wild boars are fir-tree and fir-deciduous woods, alder thickets. On all territory of Belarus the most preferred habitats of wild boars are rider and low-lying bogs, boggy inundated woods and woods situated nearby the meadows. In Belarus the wild boar is the major hunting kind. Hunting for a wild boar is popular, but is resolved under licenses. During the license shooting 15-25 % of their number are annually withdrawn.
