Marten wood

Marten wood (martes martes). In Belarus it is widespread everywhere and is a usual native kind of fauna. Density of its population is bigger in western and northern areas where it was kept more files of a ripe wood. Preferred habitats of a wood marten are sites of a ripe wood with greater variety of biotopes around. Favorably for a wood marten is the presence in a wood of the rivers, streams and lakes, small growing cuttings down, sites of a boggy wood. In conditions of Belarus the high population density of a marten wood is observed in files of a wood with prevalence of fir-tree and fir-deciduous sites and also in inundated and over meadows woods with prevalence of an oak. Because of high quality of fur and rather big quantity of a wood marten its value  as a hunting kind is enormous.
