Hazel grouse

Hazel grouse (bonasa bonasia) lives within the limits of all wood zone, therefore the border of its distribution in Eurasia basically coincides with border of distribution of continuous woods. In Belarus a hazel grouse is a usual kind, most numerous of grouse. As the typical inhabitant of woods, a hazel grouse occupies various wood lands, but prefers the humidified areas in low places, on coast of wood streams and small rivers. It gravitates to thickened places, blockages of a windbreak. In Belarus the hazel grouse meets practically in all types of the fir and mixed forests, in alder thickets and oak groves. Sometimes it can be met also in pine forests, especially with an admixture of a birch, an aspen and with undergrowth of young fir trees. It only avoids homogeneous pine spaces on dry sandy soils. Owing to its almost universal distribution the hazel grouse is accessible for a wide range of hunters. However hunting for it isn’t always enough successful as demands not only a certain experience of imitation of marriage singing, but also patience, observation and knowledge of ecology of this kind.
