Mountain Hare

Mountain Hare (lepus timidus). In Belarus the mountain hare meets on all territory, however density of its population is considerably bigger in central and northern areas. In Polesye this kind meets seldom. Basically it lives in fir forests, which aren’t numerous here. Habitats of mountain hare are various woods, however they prefer to occupy forest plots on suburbs of bogs, along streams, rivers and lakes. The mountain hair avoids the open spaces. Value of this animal in sports hunting on the territories of Belarus is a little bit smaller than of the hare european. Its actual population consists now in 73,9 thousands of individuals.
