Otter river

Otter river (lutra lutra). It is widespread on all territory of Belarus and is a usual native kind of fauna. An otter lives on reservoirs. On water-currents (the rivers, channels) it lives in Belarus constantly, and at standing reservoirs (lakes, water basins, fish-breeding ponds) - it lives usually only in not glacial period as there isn't enough access to water. Within a year preferred reservoirs for an otter are rather deep, swift-flowing rivers with abrupt, with overgrown vegetation coast, especially if they proceed through glacial lakes. Such rivers are characterized by greater stocks of the fish, poorly limited access to water during the freezing-over and good protective conditions that provides to an otter favorable conditions of dwelling. Are less densely occupied by an otter slow-flowing rivers where the access to water in an initial stage of freezing-over is strongly limited. An otter willingly occupies the rivers, in meadows of which there are a lot of lakes and former riverbed full of fish, and it considerably improves its fodder conditions. The population of the otter makes now 4,7 thousands of individuals.
